STYLE GURU STYLE: Spice Up The Dress With A Vest

Summer is here! Which means there is tons of catching up to do with all the friends you lost touch with while studying so diligently throughout the semester—or at least during the last week. Anyhow, it’s time to show some leg and style while still staying comfortable. T-shirt dresses are always on-trend for the summer, and for me, they are ideal for maximum comfort and style.

Though I am familiar with the value of the T-shirt dress, the Rick Owens spring/summer 2016 ready-to-wear collection inspired me to spice up my dress with a vest. The collection is a perfect blend of black and neutral earth-toned dresses presented alone or with a long black sleeveless vest or overcoat. Rick Owens is a unique designer and insane visionary, turning the T-shirt dress into high-fashion chic with just simple tweaks.

Channeling my inner Rick Owens, I mimicked the earth-toned T-shirt dress and styled with a long black vest accented with black buttons. However, I decided to go with a vibrant mustard yellow dress that I recently bought from the thrift store and a less neutral color to give my outfit more of a summer vibe. I paired the ensemble with black double buckle ankle sandals that have a small block heel to create a look that can easily go from lunch with the girls to a night around town.

For a bit of individual flavor, I complemented the look with a gold bracelet watch and an Origami Owl necklace. Topped off with a long strap shoulder purse that gives a slight vintage feel and of course, no summer outfit is complete without sunglasses. My all-black round cat-eye frames make the perfect companion to any outfit.

Sleeveless vests are definitely on-trend for this summer. I think it may even be my new favorite outerwear, adding a fun addition to any outfit.
