STYLE GURU STYLE: Sophisticated Crops

I can’t say I’m surprised that Chanel’s spring 2015 show was nothing short of spectacular. I was completely mesmerized by every picture. I can only imagine what it was like to experience the display in person. According to the article written by Tim Blanks on Style.com, it took six months to create each flower that hung on the backdrop of the show because each one was mechanical and moved. It must have been something else to watch the one and only Karl Lagerfeld’s dream become a reality. Although extremely simple and monochromatic, the silhouettes of each look were extremely impressive. I am obsessed with the cropped broad shouldered blazers and long midi skirts presented in this show. I was especially drawn to the large detailed hats that were featured on every model. I loved the way they were paired with such otherwise simple pieces.

I was inspired by this show and decided to put together a look that reflected the couture of Chanel’s show in a way that can be worn everyday. In an attempt to mimic the cropped tweed jackets worn by many of the models in the show, I threw on my tweed houndstooth cropped jacket from Forever 21. Believe it or not, I bought this jacket four years ago. I had forgotten I had it until I saw this show and it reminded me of it. Because each look presented in this show was very simple and my jacket is patterned I wanted to keep the rest of my outfit very monochromatic and simple. I paired my jacket with my favorite pair of black jeans from Urban Outfitters and black lace-up boots from Rocket Dog. I wore a black headband with a beaded flower to copy the large detailed hats worn in the show. To add a little of my personality, I wore dark lipstick. This also added a little pop of color to my otherwise monochromatic outfit.

Get My Look: 1. Cropped jacket. 2. The perfect dark lipstick (Rebel by MAC). 3. Black jeans. 4. Black boots.
