STYLE GURU STYLE: Skirty Flirty

Here in Chicago the weather can be beyond unpredictable. Checking your weather app is essential before leaving your dorm. You don’t know if it’s going to be 20 degrees and snowing or 70 degrees and sunny. Despite this temperature difference, my closet and style has stayed the same. I have three pairs of jeans but twenty skirts. This makes the cold weather difficult to navigate through. How many times can I wear the same of pair of jeans? The limit does not exist. But this limited rotation can be boring. It wasn’t until mid February that I decided to not let the cold stop me from wearing my skirts and dresses.
When the weather is nice, my only prerequisite for wearing a skirt is wearing shorts underneath. When the weather is not so nice, I usually (begrudgingly) wear tights underneath to protect my legs from the cold. Normally, I find tights to be unsightly. However, there are some times when tights simply work. Sure sheer tights are more fashionable, but opaque tights like mine are warmer.
Being a college student, I don’t have the budget to revamp my closet for every season. I try to make all of my clothing work throughout the year. Who says that overalls are only for the summer? If you believe in yourself then you can make denim overalls work anytime of the year. I just added tights and a faux fur jacket to transcend my denim past its intended season. It’s important to think about these small details when transitioning from winter to spring. Remember that every piece in your closet is fair game, despite the weather.
