STYLE GURU STYLE: Simply Sweet

Normally I am pulled in by the masculinity of menswear, but every once in a while, I feel a pang to embrace my feminine side. Flowing trousers and shapeless tops are having a moment, and I am all for it. While demur, these styles have a hint of ambiguity and that is what I love about these upcoming womenswear trends. Some say potato sack, I say chic sack. While many times it is the bohemian styling of Vanessa Hudgens that inspires me to bust out my girly side, this time it was the J.Crew fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection that did it for me. Designer Tom Mora explained that many of the shapes present in the collection were odes to the popular fashions of the ‘70s. How could I resist?

I began to shape my look from the top down. In an attempt to recreate the feel of the collection, I wore an ivory shapeless button-down. While sweet, the shape hides the shape of my body and hangs ambiguously on my body. On the bottom, I wore my favorite pair of ripped boyfriend jeans. If I wasn’t in the presence of the same group of people all the time, I would wear them every day. The style is part of the “model off duty” movement, and let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to look like a casual model? Another confession, these shoes are also my favorite. The heel cutout and ankle strap combination is exciting and adds detail to both my shoe closet and this specific look. Besides my “RAD” bracelet, I decided to go no frills and pass on accessories in an attempt to keep the look simple and sophisticated.

For the moment, my obsession with the J.Crew collection will dictate my looks from day to day. Who knows? Tomorrow I may see a picture of A$AP Rocky and all of that will change.
