STYLE GURU STYLE: Simply Structured

What do the Ice Bucket Challenge, the death of Robin Williams and skinny cropped pants to the ankle all have in common? The year 2014. Although the Ice Bucket Challenge may be a distant memory you share with your best friends and now you may only shed one tear when you watch a Robin William’s movie, the skinny cropped pant proves that some things never go out of style. Case in point, Banana Republic’s spring 2014 Ready-To-Wear collection still has many looks that are pertinent to the year 2016 and its fashion.

My favorite look of Banana Republic’s 2014 spring collection is look number nine. The model looks effortlessly put together. The model wore a pair of army green fitted cropped pants to the ankle and matched it with a loosely flowing cream colored blouse on top. The bottom is structured while the top remains delicate and feminine. It’s the perfect balance for a girl who wants to be taken seriously at the office, but she can still grab a cup of coffee with friends on her lunch break. The look is also minimally styled. From her sandals to her belt and necklace, everything is accented with brown leather.

I attempted to translate this look but with a college level budget and availability; so basically five dollars and mine and my roommate’s closets. I have a similar pair of army green skinny cropped pants to the ankle just like the model. Score one for me! I then paired the pants with a gray and white blouse that is feminine and simple.  I also accessorized my look with nude colored ballet flats and simple stud earrings. I like how the outfit did not take long to style, but it looks refined and carefully put together.

Get My Look: 1. Army green cropped pants. 2. Neutral colored blouse. 3. Brown ballet flats.
