STYLE GURU STYLE: Simple Silhouettes

As we grow through college and mature, I think it is important that our style evolves and matures as well. The first thing you notice about someone is the way they are dressed, and you instantly judge them on their appearance, whether you realize it or not. Business professionals often stress that 80 percent of making a positive first impression in an interview is based on what you wear. Many of us students have internships and want to graduate with a job offer. In order for this to happen, it is important for us to present ourselves maturely even outside of the job but still express our unique style.

You can present yourself as put together and still express your own personality through your clothes. Hood By Air’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection perfectly embodies this idea of fun yet sophisticated. Their runway show featured many crisp, white blouses that would be appropriate for a work day. However, they pair these blouses with intergalactic-inspired skirts and accessories.

I always opt for a crisp, white blouse when I want to look like I somewhat have my life together. By pairing a work-appropriate blouse with a bottom that is more fun and flirty, you are adding your own style to an otherwise simple piece. The tight, rouched skirt adds my carefree personality to the look while still keeping it professional.

In order to add more personal details to my blouse-skirt combination, I opted for my favorite necklace and watch. A watch is essential for going to work and class because it allows you to check the time without the distraction of tuning into your cell phone. This necklace is my favorite piece of jewelry because it is a play on the typical “heart” necklace that many females wear. I am a huge science nerd, so I love that I can combine science with fashion in what I wear.

Get My Look: 1. Sophisticated blouse. 2. Fun skirt. 3. Watch.
