STYLE GURU STYLE: Show a Little Shoulder

2016 seems to be the year of the shoulder. With the countless spring runways that sent this look down the catwalk, you know that the shoulder is definitely having its moment. Many designers including Prabal Gurung, Chloé, Balmain and alice + olivia included off-the-shoulder styles in their spring 2016 shows. One designer whose take on this I particularly loved was Rachel Zoe’s spring 2016 show. Her boho sense of style has always been a favorite of mine, and I love how she incorporated the off-the-shoulder trend in such a soft and feminine way.

I love the fact that bare shoulders are so big this season. Off-the-shoulder tops and dresses are subtly sexy and they are incredibly flattering on just about everyone. I mean, I’ve never heard of anyone who didn’t like their shoulders. This trend is definitely the more demure alternative to the plunging necklines that have been incredibly popular in the last couple years.

While I love the soft, feminine boho stylings of Zoe’s show, I chose to add a little edge to my take on this trend. This pink lacy top could easily go into super girly territory, which is great, but why not work pair it with a contrasting piece? You can pair a feminine top with bottoms that are more edy to create an unexpected look that works. Wearing a super slouchy and distressed pair of boyfriend jeans with a girly top like this can balance out both pieces. I opted for heeled sandals with this look, but some well-loved sneakers could work equally as well to give this outfit a more casual vibe.
