STYLE GURU STYLE: Shore Thing

June 19th, 2015 at 2:05am

I’ve never really been into the whole “nautical” thing. I never thought that it would fit my personal style, and whenever the trend would reappear during the warmer seasons I would avoid all things striped or navy. That all changed recently after I saw the ace&jig spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. The series was filled with beautiful and beachy pieces, all of which I would love to have magically appear hanging in my closet. I immediately fell in love with their bohemian interpretation on nautical clothing.

To recreate a similar look inspired by the collection, I wore a striped T-shirt dress. T-shirt dresses are amazing for the summer because they’re so lightweight and comfortable to wear due to their soft fabric. Usually, I tend to gravitate towards pieces that are less form fitting. However, I felt that the pairing of the cotton textile of the dress complimented its silhouette and made it more of casual. For shoes, I had to wear my new sandals. I’ve been on the lookout for a sandal like this for a hot minute, so when I found this pair recently while shopping I knew it was destiny. I absolutely adore the cool mixing of the solid beige felt strap with the snake print band.

I have been living for this Panama hat. In the past, I honestly thought hats like this were way too Jason Mraz-y. But after realizing how effortless they are to wear, I’ve become obsessed. I think they look great, and they always make me feel like I’m vacationing somewhere exotic. You can dress them up or down by pairing them with an over-sized T-shirt and a pair of bell-bottom pants. Lastly, I wore my beige cross-body bag and jade statement necklace from Urban Outfitters to give the look a more boho vibe.

I’ve learned that by accessorizing trends, you can mold them to fit your personal style and make you feel #RAD.

Get My Look: 1. A striped T-shirt dress. 2. A panama hat. 3. A pair of strappy sandals.
