STYLE GURU STYLE: Shine Bright Like A Diamond

The beginning of summer signals many different things on campus. Students are interviewing for internships, attending various fun events, beginning to go out with their friends again and, if you’re in Illinois, the beginning of summer means a lot of confusing weather. Although it seems like everyone’s dying to start looking summertime cute, it’s easier than one would think to resort back to casual denim and T-shirts. Well, I’m not ready to give up so easily! Just because the weather’s a little crazy, doesn’t mean that your outfit can’t survive! Learning to put together outfits that can make you chic and happy regardless the weather will spruce up your summer closet when the weather hasn’t peaked just yet!

Taking inspiration from Michael Kors’ spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I am wearing a zip pocket half-placket soft shirt in true white and light denim aftermath skinny jeans. Michael Kors taught me well with his collection as he uses true white tops with darker denim or colored bottoms, allowing the top to pop and now even I can’t help myself from doing it. Even if you don’t want to use a very dark colored bottom, this effect will still be in place which let me use a light-wash denim for this look. I am obsessed with centering outfits around a bright white to keep the upbeat and fierce vibe of the season!

Using bright colors such as a true white allows you to bring the sparkle to the room and keep it there, even in long sleeves. To accessorize, I used gold inverted triangle drop earrings and rings and Kalisa boots in black from Shiekh Shoes. I love a gold piece or two in the Summer which can make you seem more tan as the weather gets warmer, who wouldn’t kill for a bronze-glow! At the same time, these mid-calf boots allow any Fashionista to keep killing their campus streets, rain or shine. In Illinois, we’ve been getting a good amount of both so you can’t go wrong here!

Get My Look: 1. Any fabulous true white top. 2. Denim or colored bottoms. 3. Gold accessories to achieve that faux summer glow.
