STYLE GURU STYLE: Sheer Genuis

Style Guru Style

Although see-through clothing is no where near a new trend, Vionnet’s spring 2014 couture runway show sheer made me feel like it was. Pun intended. The gowns were as elegant as wedding veils and the pleats added great texture. Surprisingly enough, for a couture line, the dresses were quite appropriate. And on some of the pieces, tailored statement blouses and coats gave me just a peek of sheer on the leg. Structured accessories were also a unique part of the line. I really liked the use of multiple belts and piping around the different prints and layers of material. Thick, unusually shaped collars were also on a few of the dresses. Although sheer was the highlight of Vionnet’s line, the non-sheer pieces were just as lovely.

Since see-through clothing just so happens to be one of my favorite things, I decided to give you all double the sheer. I’m wearing a floral lace top and a sheer maxi skirt with not one, but two thigh-high slits. I added a leopard belt because mixing prints is a fun thing to try. Leopard and floral are great together. We’ve all seen Rihanna’s bare-all sheer dress, and I strongly do not recommend anyone to leave their house as she did. As a nicer, more appropriate option, I wore a black bandeau under my top. The skirt can actually be considered a “skort” thanks to the shorts on the inside.

Wearing see-through clothing isn’t for everyone, but it can be. And it doesn’t just have to be the sheer chiffon fabric. There’s also lace and mesh. I’ve seen some really cute swimsuit cover-ups in all of these materials. Sheer is daring and sometimes questionable, and that’s why I love it. So hey, if people are going to look, might as well make it worth their while.
