STYLE GURU STYLE: Sheer Floral

The spring 2015 Chanel couture show drew spectators into a futuristic, springtime paradise complete with 300 mechanized flowers. Karl Lagerfeld explained that the whole vision for the show’s garden utopia environment came to him in a flash one morning. Amid the futuristic vibes of the setting, the collection included pieces with classic touches like tweeds, structured suits and lace. Overall, it was quite a dramatic spectacle, as Lagerfeld’s work usually is; he creates an environment that’s just as meaningful as the clothing.

With this outfit, I created my own kind of springtime fantasy. I paired my sheer, floral top (with a white cami underneath) with super light acid-wash jeans. I finished off this look with some funky bracelets and fun, colorful Nike sneakers. I don’t wear prints too often but when I do, I definitely gravitate towards florals. I love the bright color palette of my top and the striped pattern makes me think of the futuristic, whimsical vibes in the Chanel show. If I’m not wearing dark, high-rise skinny jeans, these jeans are my go-to for a more vintage look. The retro look to my sneakers is what caught my eye when buying them and definitely adds a great touch to my outfit.

Although the couture world is of a realm a bit out of reach for the average college student such as myself, it’s fun to integrate elements of a show like Chanel’s with fun, bold clothing that is a little out-of-the-box.

Get My Look: 1. A striped sheer, floral top. 2. Edgy light, acid-wash jeans. 3. Colorful sneakers.
