STYLE GURU STYLE: Shaggy, Baby

Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week has been upon us. This week of exciting and iconic collections from veterans and newbies in the industry is highly anticipated every year. As we know, fashion never ends. As I looked through the entire collection, Ashish Gupta’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear had me screaming “Yasssss!” The collection gives Fashionistas and Fashionistos sexy faux fur, shag, camouflage and monochromatic greatness. He also combines different textures and prints that give the looks a very funky combination of style. In the beginning looks of the show, you can see the different animal prints that the designer laced the fringe and fur with. This designer pulls his inspiration for this collection from one of the best decades of fashion: the ’70s. In this collection, Ashish lets women feel empowered and sexy through the bold phrases like “SEX” in look two and the Parisian streetwalker-inspired boots.

In my look, I was inspired by the first look of the collection and pulled out the biggest and shaggiest coat in my closet. My look accentuates a style that the runway show doesn’t. It’s color-blocking. This trend has been around for decades, and just like Ashish’s collection, it drew inspiration from the ’70s. Even though the coat is great on its own, I still have to wear pants and shoes. Boyfriend jeans are always a chic choice. These acid-washed jeans come from my favorite store, Forever 21. I love the comfortable fit of this style of jean. They let you breathe while still maintaining your shape. And, of course, I had to add my favorite platform wedges with a faux gold cuff. To add more drama to the look, I slipped on my gold shape rings. This look is going in my style archive as one of my favorites.

Get My Look: 1. Faux fur or shaggy coat. 2. Acid-washed boyfriend jeans. 3. Gold rings.
