STYLE GURU STYLE: Say Yes To The Bodysuit

As we all are very well aware, today’s current trends are mostly influenced by previous decades. Today I bring to you bodysuits. Yes, I’m talking “Single Ladies” by Beyoncé. Bodysuits are such an interesting piece of clothing, you can’t really tell whether it is shirt or not at plain sight. The mystery of it all is what makes them so interesting; it’s your little secret.

Many designers have recently incorporated bodysuits into their collections. The one that caught my attention the most was Zuhair Murad. Every collection he releases is sheer genius, infused with such elegance and sexiness. I don’t think the human eye was meant to witness such beauty. How do you do it Mr. Murad? Being that his gowns are God sculpted, it’s nearly impossible to mimic any of them, so I was excited when I saw a couple of bodysuits in his spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. As an avid all-black clothing user, his collection convinced me that white conveys a clean and smooth look. Something that really caught my attention were all the cutouts and deep V-necks. Similarly, the bodysuit I chose to wear had deep cleavage and cutouts that, I must say, have made me fall in love with it over and over. I decided to pair the bodysuit with a pair of ripped boyfriend jeans to add a more casual feel. From our Fashion Talk with 7 For All Mankind I realized that boyfriend jeans are and always will be the answer. Shoutout to 7 For All Mankind for their great advice! Switching to shoes, I went for some white platform sandals which are also very “in” right now. To finish up the outfit, I added an simple silver ear cuff because, why not?

Sadly, last Wednesday, Donna Karan stepped down from designing. The woman who in 1985 launched the revolutionary collection “Seven Easy Pieces” as in, introducing the bodysuit to the fashion industry. With this collection, she proved to the world that a bodysuit is a staple piece that everyone must have in their closet. With the correct pairing and layering, it can be used for absolutely any occasion. I love a good coincidence and with this article I am unintentionally paying homage to the great Donna Karan. Thank you for this multi-use piece of clothing, it has really helped all of us girls keep everything in place.

Having said that, as a former ballet child, I found leotards to be the most uncomfortable article of clothing known to man and after my well deserved retirement, I swore off leotards for life. As a young adult Fashionista I must say, “Give me all the leotard/bodysuits you can find, I will wear them.” The bodysuit is so versatile; whether you have a job interview, a party or a casual lunch, bodysuits will always have your back. So, next time you’re debating whether or not to buy that bodysuit you have in your hands, just think of me and say YES.

Get My Look: 1. A bodysuit. 2. A pair of boyfriend jeans. 3. White platform sandals.
