STYLE GURU STYLE: Sassy in Spring

An abstract patterned romper, black knee-high boots and an oversized fur jacket, what could possibly go wrong? Combining all these pieces together allows for an easy transition between winter and spring, especially when the weather just doesn’t want to cooperate, but you still want to wear your springtime florals!

Taking inspiration from the Chanel spring 2016 couture collection, I combined a lose fitting navy abstract floral romper with pieces that were cream and black to calm the mood, but kept the essence of uniqueness still apparent. Karl Lagerfeld introduced a large array of varying pieces in this collection, but my favorites were an oversized cream coat, a floor length silk abstract multicolored floral dress and a black sheer dress with insects printed all over. I chose to stick with the same color palette that Lagerfeld used by including navy, creme and black for a light transition into spring colors.

I decided to keep the same theme and color scheme that the collection portrayed, but created a more casual outfit to be worn by college students. I wanted this outfit to showcase the same classy, but sassy style that Chanel is famous for. I paired a polyester navy floral romper with a pair of leather knee-high boots. I wanted to incorporate black in more than just the shoes, so I buckled on a black southwestern-inspired black belt to create symmetry and just to add some flavor to the outfit. On my way out the door, I grabbed an oversized fur jacket and added a pop of dark red lip to complete the look. The colors may be subtle, but by mixing textures and wearing a large printed piece this outfit is definitely an eye-catcher!
