STYLE GURU STYLE: Safari Meets City

For many years, khaki colored clothes were associated with two things: safari and Jake from State Farm, until Marc Jacobs, Chanel and Ralph Lauren debuted the color look in their spring ready-to-wear runways. By pressing the boundaries, these designers have opened a new door into the fashion world, leading to new trends and outfits. Today, khaki has changed from a strictly casual look, to a color that is a must-have for evening wear.

In Ralph Lauren’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear runway, it featured two major trends: khaki and suede. From casual looks to evening gowns, the khaki color was seen. This changes the way khaki can be worn, dressing up a once casual color. The way the looks incorporate different fabrics and an emphasis on suede inspired my look for todays post.

For my look, I incorporated the khaki suede mini-shorts that follow the color palette of Ralph Lauren’s show. I also was inspired by his emphasis on mixed fabrics by pairing the shorts with a black faux-leather crop top. I modernized the look by pairing it with a sandal with a transparent chunky-heel.

Keeping this outfit minimalistic, allows this look to work for many different occasions. The low-heeled sandals keep this look casual, making this perfect for a casual lunch with a friend; while the faux-leather shirt and suede, along with the plum lipstick makes this look perfect for a late happy-hour. For a ladies night out, switch out the sandals with a black ankle-strap heel.

Get My Look: 1. Khaki suede shorts. 2. Any black faux-leather crop top. 3. Black low-heel sandals.
