STYLE GURU STYLE: Rompers

There are a million reasons why I love summer. I’m sure they’re familiar to any student at any age; no school, no stress and no worries. It’s a stretch of three months that allows us to do whatever we want (well, almost), whenever we want. I love the summer because it means endless sunshine, some color on my skin and lazy days on the beach. It means fireworks and crisp nights around bonfires; but most of all, it means getting to spend much-needed quality time with my best friends.

In high school, my friends and I spent our summers doing goofy things, like driving around in our cars blasting music (which never gets old) and walking from one house to the next. When we felt like planning something, we would venture out to the beach or a baseball game. Now that we’re older, I find planned dinners or trips downtown are becoming more frequent, which means I got accustomed to throwing outfits together on the fly. Although doing this takes a little bit of an imagination and a healthy dose of creativity, I know exactly where to find it.

Sass & Bide’s fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection is just one of many collections that help me when I’m having doubts about my closet. This collection — filled with playful patterns and a variety of cuts — pushed me to take advantage of bold prints and the combination of long and short. My favorite pieces in particular were the wide varieties of rompers, each one better than the last.

This outfit, inspired by Sass & Bide, quickly became one of my favorites for nights where I need to look good but want to feel comfortable. A romper is a great solution when in a time crunch. It provides a top and a bottom and (if chosen right) can be a very chic alternative to a dress or jeans. This romper is perfect for a girls’ night out. It’s fun, vintage print and unique combination of colors make it great on its own — no excessive jewelry or accessories needed. The longer sleeves keep me warm when cool air starts to creep in, but the slit in the back prevents me from overheating.

To add a little oomph, I paired this romper with leather wedges in a neutral color. These wedges give the outfit a dressier look and also complete it. These shoes are a great summer staple item, seeing as the color allows them to go with almost everything. With a black cross body slung on my shoulder, I’m ready for any plans that get thrown at me!

Get My Look: 1. A printed romper with long sleeves. Aim for a print that is fun, but not too outrageous. 2. A pair of leather wedges in a neutral hue. 3. A simple cross-body bag that can be worn with any outfit, day or night.
