STYLE GURU STYLE: Rich Prints

I have fallen in love. Valentino’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection has taken my heart for good, I fear. The show began with beautifully embroidered pieces and simple cuts. Some of the pieces were reminiscent of vintage dresses when paired with the stringy gladiator sandals. Bold prints came with sharper cuts, such as jumpsuits and flouncy, almost flamenco style, dresses. What really caught my eye was this look because of the incredible detail of the embellished gems and flowers. The dress looks slightly like armor with its shining ornaments, yet it manages to remain light and almost ethereal. I attribute this to the see-through mesh and short length of the skirt. Later in the show, the fabric is used again in a longer cut and creates a heavier but more intense impression. All-over detail is trending this spring season in the form of whimsical prints and interesting fabrics.

Because this look is so incredibly beautiful, I knew I had to try it out. To make this dress work for a night out, I decided to take the embellished fabric and turn it into something a little more one-dimensional. Interesting large prints are big this season, and the jewel print accomplishes that trend while also paying homage to the original dress’ gems. The black background of the dress is like the black mesh and provides a nice contrast for the brightness of the print. I opted for a more practical black heel instead of gladiator sandals while we transition from winter to spring. I added a white clutch to give this outfit a pop of color without distracting from the dress.

This collection is incredibly easy to incorporate into daily wear, which is difficult to say about some high end fashion. I am definitely looking forward to wearing variations of some of these outfits once the weather becomes a little more friendly towards dresses.

Get My Look: 1. A jewel printed dress. 2. Black heels (depending on base color of dress.) 3. A clutch purse in a neutral color.
