STYLE GURU STYLE: Retro Revival

‘70s retro is back, and it has never looked better than in alice + olivia’s pre-fall 2016 collection. In this collection, alice + olivia brought back a blast from the past, showing off ‘70s style. Designer Stacey Bendet remarked that she was inspired by the idea of a “chic librarian or school girl studying at the library;” but, this collection is far from your standard, boring school uniforms or your classic librarian’s drab. I am completely in love with this entire collection, from the mini skirts and over-the-knee boots, to the paisley and floral bell-bottoms.

I have always been enthralled by ‘70s fashion, having always taken exception to the sky-high hemlines and equally tall boots, and this collection captured the best of it. In the last few years, I have especially developed an obsession with over-the-knee boots. Lately, though, I have had a hard time coming up with new ways to style them. This collection opened my eyes to the many new—and old—ways one can pair over-the-knee boots with other pieces, making it safe to say that the tall boots trend will be my style of choice this winter.

I decided to wear this suede bodycon dress because suede has always been synonymous with the ‘70s and makes the dress more appropriate for the cold winter weather. I also paired the dress with a long, black cardigan to winterize my ensemble that much more. Long cardigans are my go-to when styling dresses for less than warm climates; it adds layers without making the outfit look too top-heavy and bulky. I also added my over-the-knee leather boots, which are my current favorite. I love the height of these shoes because they are tall enough to be standout pieces, but not so tall that they completely swallow up your lower half. I incorporated a fun accessory with the dream catcher necklace. I love wearing dresses all year long, but it becomes especially difficult once the cold weather starts to settle in. That’s why I have come to appreciate the gorgeous designs that alice + olivia showcased this season. They are the perfect transition from frigid weather to a temperate spring.

Get My Look: 1. A suede dress. 2. Over-the-knee boots. 3. A long cardigan. 4. A neutral purse.
