STYLE GURU STYLE: Retro Chic

One of the coolest things about fashion to me is the fashion cycle. I think it’s so interesting how styles that were trendy 20 years ago, like chokers and crop tops, have made such a dramatic comeback. In addition to other pieces, like off-the-shoulder shirts and the signature denim jacket, neck scarves have been making their way back into the fashion world. The multitude of ways that you can tie them, combined with the endless amounts of colors and patterns that they come in, really makes for a timeless addition to any outfit.

In this outfit, I layered one of my favorite tank top dresses with a sleek, black, long-sleeved body suit, allowing me to make use of a dress that I would normally only be able to wear when it is warmer outside. On the bottom, I have on black tights with vertical, black stripes and my favorite pair of black booties. The vertical stripes on the tights give the illusion of elongated legs (which is a bonus, since my legs are so short). For a statement piece I added the light blue neck scarf tied in a triangular shape, bringing in a retro vibe. To top it off, I used a subtle red lip for a pop of color. Taking a fun accessory like this neck scarf and tying it in with a simple outfit is a perfect example of how trends can be incorporated into your personal style. In a world full of trends, you should never forget the classics.
