Elie Tahari is known for making effortless clothes for the urban lifestyle. His fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection is filled with wearable leather jackets, slouchy pants, mid-length coats and cozy sweaters. The pieces are tailored for quality, not quantity, which is something one always appreciates when buying clothing. The color palette is full of smoky grays, black and olive greens with a few pops of red, pink and baby blue. When I saw this collection, I could tell it was heavily inspired by New York City, where Tahari’s headquarters are located. He made sure that each leading lady had a multi-functional coat to go with every look. In the fall, outerwear can make or break an outfit and turn something casual into something chic.
I chose a dressier look from the collection that featured one of the numerous leather jackets paired with a stunning red dress and heels. I wore a leather jacket that I’ve had, I swear, since high school and a sleeveless red dress I picked up from American Apparel. I switched up the black shoes featured in the look to a pair of nude suede pumps to get away from my personal love of black high heeled shoes. I can’t be a one trick pony, now can I?
Fall collections are known for being darker, edgier and just heavier in general. It’s refreshing to see that Elie Tahari is including some hints of spring and summer with the pops of pastel in his fall line to lighten things up. Overall, Tahari succeeded with his theme of “lightning through the darkness.” Now I can feel like a little bolt of light as I walk down the city streets in my inspired look.
