STYLE GURU STYLE: Real Resort Wear

Designers’ resort-wear lines typically fall more in the range of glamour than relaxation, but realistic spring vacation wear should be all about color, comfort and adventure! alice + olivia’s 2015 resort collection featured tons of bright primary colors, along with chunky florals and short hems fit for frolicking. In particular, I loved the playful and sporty nature of this bright, patterned jacket layered over a fun skirt. Wishing for Spring Break’s return and wanting to bring out my inner kiddo, I chose a playful look that would allow for exploration on a beautiful day.

While this look has some new accessories, it features two prime examples of what I call “style snagging”. The bright, short sleeved button-down I’m wearing (courtesy of my roommate) actually comes as a small size from the men’s department. Perfect for slouchy, casual layering that still leaves a pop and statement, it is a breezy choice for spring days. To keep my look feminine, I added a second “snag,” a blue and silver ring from the local thrift shop. The ring’s faux turquoise reminds me of a relaxing day surrounded by soft stand and crystal water.

I admired alice + olivia’s slightly flared silhouette for work, but I chose a less structured approach for a more casual day. The black base looks like a casual sundress, but has a skort-like feature that makes it much more practical. Once again, it’s a piece perfect for exploring in style! A solid romper would also serve a similarly sporty purpose for this look.

I topped the look off with two trusty accessories. My leather tote, which could also be considered a style snag since it was a diamond-in-the-rough-discounted-design (say that three times fast), travels with me everywhere. It can hold everything from great reads to lotion and a towel. Finally, my canvas sandals can withstand any spring break elements and emerge victoriously comfortable. I like this pair’s olive color because it can pair with colors and neutrals!

Get My Look: 1. A colorful cotton shirt. 2. Sporty sandals. 3. A black one-piece made for fun!
