STYLE GURU STYLE: Punk With a Feminine Flare

An actual winter has finally arrived in California this year and I couldn’t be happier. With cold weather brings the opportunity for layering, as well as being able to bust out the winter coats that have been stuck in the closet all year. Being that it is the Southwest, the temperature doesn’t drop as dramatically, allowing some room to transition warm weather pieces into winter. With this outfit, I put together a look that complements the mood of the dreary weather that we’ve been getting here in Los Angeles, all while keeping it polished, yet warm.

Here, I am sporting my play on a polka dot print with this skull patterned button-down shirt. Do not be afraid to venture into the men’s clothing section, because believe it or not, it is how I came across this top! I love how from far away it looks like a black, polka dotted shirt; while when you come up close, you could see the skull details. To add a softer texture to this structured top, I added a black neck tie to give it a feminine touch. I paired the top with a black denim jean from H&M; a staple in my wardrobe. To keep myself warm, I pulled this outfit together by adding a long black wool coat from Andrew Marc. The leather sleeves and detailing maintain the toughness element to the look while the maroon inner lining gives the outfit a subtle pop of color.

Last but not least: the shoes. Laced up detailing has been a major trend lately, and these laced black pumps are no exception. These heels command attention to this look and give it that final polished flare. Every time I wear these shoes, I get an instant confidence boost when you wear them; there’s nothing that could stop me or get in my way with these on.
