I can’t believe that I, a frequent wearer of the black, ripped and bleached, am saying this, but there is always a time to dress with a bit of prep in your step. I love venturing out of my comfort zone in my garment choices, and taking a tip or two from M. Patmos’ cool resort 2015 collection helped me do just that! When researching a bit about Marcia Patmos and her brand, I couldn’t help but fall in love after reading the last few words of her mission statement; “…while favoring function over fussiness.” Those are certainly words to live by.
Her most recent collection featured an array of twenty monochromatic looks that oozed with essences of sleek, New York elegance. This collection is for a working girl in the city that simply cannot sacrifice style for comfort; so she got both. While trying to emulate this look, I realized that I couldn’t simply stick with the monochromatic hues because I live in them. No, if I was really going to break my norms and go out of my comfort zone with this “prep meets city slick ” then I was going to go all out. I knew exactly what I was going to wear. In the depths of my closet, I pulled out the one garment that saw the light of day twice in its time of being in my possession; my zip up Lacoste tennis polo. I then tucked it into one of my favorite pencil skirts, which was the pop of color to my ensemble. M. Patmos captured one of my favorite and most frequently worn trends in Looks 3,12 and 13; the sweater tied around the waist. This gives a modern, not so preppy twist to her collection. I tied on a beige sweater, threw on a pair of fake thick rimmed glasses, and a pair of my favorite cut out oxfords. I was out, about and making this look my own.
