STYLE GURU STYLE: Prints on Prints

Roberto Cavalli has always been one of my favorite designers and the resort 2017 collection is definitely no exception. The collection is full of fun, brightly colored, overlapping prints. This mix of designs and colors adds an interesting and exciting touch to every outfit. Peter Dundas, creative director of Roberto Cavalli, says his inspiration is a woman who is a “rock goddess and a summer traveler.” It was the collection’s mixed prints and this quote that inspired my look.

I fell in love with the contrasting patterns on this print dress from Forever 21. The faded red patterns instantly caught my attention, but it was the interesting pocket detail that ultimately sold me on the dress. The prints seemed very boho inspired to me which I think helps portrait the ‘summer traveler’ side of my look. I decided to add an edgy touch by layering with a vintage jean jacket that I grabbed from my parents’ closet. The faded look of the denim combined with the oversized ’90s fit gives the outfit the rock touch I was looking for. To add an extra bit of edge I decided to wear an old pair of chunky wooden heels that have a black suede strap from Steve Madden.

To finish off my look, I added plenty of accessories! My tasseled layered necklace and dainty rings are all from Forever 21. I got my earrings and tortoiseshell sunglasses from H&M. Adding accessories and jewelry helps give a personal touch to each outfit. I think that bright, gold jewelry is the perfect shade for the summer season, and can definitely bring out your summer tan!
