STYLE GURU STYLE: Pretty AND Tough

If you know anything about me, you know I am extremely silly, I love my green tea lattes and if I could be any television character I’d be Rachel from Friends. So what does this all mean? I am anything but a tough girl. However, it doesn’t mean that I can’t pretend to be one through my style. That’s what I absolutely love about fashion. I can be anyone I want to be while sill maintaining a part of myself.

In this look, I combined pretty, feminine elements and tougher, masculine elements to create a visually interesting and chic, trendy look. In the fall 2014 Saint Laurent ready-to-wear collection there were many looks that combined feminine and masculine elements such as this look that combined the most amazing velvet mini dress with a jewel collar and a leather trench coat.

The softer elements include my cashmere Peter Pan collar sweater, my crown braid hairstyle and my oversized tortoise shell cat eye sunglasses. I am obsessed with these sunglasses and they were only five dollars at Cotton On—such a steal! To add in some tougher elements, I wore my leather jacket that I have had for years from Nine West, distressed denim jeans from American Eagle Outfitters, suede ankle booties with a zipper details by Vince Camuto and to top it all off my favorite red lipstick—which I think makes any girl look fierce—“Ruby Woo” by MAC.

All the little details coming together, such as the buttons that line the back of the sweater, the rips on the jeans, the Peter Pan collar, the braided updo and the pop of red lipstick, are what make me love this outfit so much. It’s like I’m Katniss Everdeen and Rachel Green all at once, AKA the most perfect combination of a woman I could ever hope to be.

Get My Look: 1. A Peter Pan collar sweater. 2. A classic leather jacket. 3. The perfect red lipstick.
