The resort 2015 runway show by Ralph Lauren was everything a Fashionista would expect from the classic American sportswear brand. Pretty class was sprinkled across the dresses and separates, which mainly consisted of a white/ivory and navy color scheme. The designers created a collection that showcased comfort dressing in a sophisticated light. It is remarkably easy to imagine the models walking the piers of an East Coast country club in the clothes Ralph Lauren paraded down the beautifully designed runway. If I had it my way, I’d be waltzing through the Hamptons right now instead of taking summer classes, but I had to make do by creating my own version of the collection.
Polka-dots dominated the print scene. From small accent micro-dots to large and in charge dotted dresses, the polka-dot was a force to be reckoned with. It is easy to think of it as a pattern just for younger kids, but layering a pointed collar shirt adds a level of poise. Metallics were also a huge thread throughout the collection. From shows to actual garments, the models rocked it. Without a gold sash in my closet, I opted to take a more subtle route. A chunky silver chain adds a hint of gleam without taking things too far, although I can’t say I wouldn’t love to rock an entirely gold skirt suit in the future.
Denim finished off this look by keeping it grounded in classics. Jeans are an American staple, which is totally appropriate for a Ralph Lauren inspired look. If there is a fabric I don’t think I could live without, it’s denim. I don’t think I’ll ever understand the Fashionistas who hate it. The sweater and jeans combination is one that I will come back to time and time again, and I know I’ll always be able to look to the designers at Ralph Lauren for inspiration.
