STYLE GURU STYLE: A Pop of Summer Color

The sun is out and the flowers have bloomed—we’re well into in spring with summer right around the corner. Sunshine-filled days are ahead! As increasing temperatures and brighter colors go hand in hand, recent trends have been all about radiant and vibrant shades. Currently, my favorite summer colors are marigold yellow and bright coral red.

As someone who tends to wear all black (even in the hot summer), a minimal way I like to incorporate color is with accessories. I tried this out with a white polka dot and marigold neck scarf, paired with this rather all-black outfit. Following the choker hype, bandanas and skinny neck scarves have been a buzzing trend. With these scarves styles can range from preppy to bohemian, but give an overall revamped retro look.

Another trend that has remained current since last summer is the off-the-shoulder look. Dresses, tops, swimwear, and even bodysuits have adopted this flirty style. In this outfit, I’m wearing a simple black off-the-shoulder mini dress. I paired the comfortable dress with my go-to shoes: classic high-top Converse. Minimal silver jewelry finished off the look. Besides experimenting with neck scarves, I love trying out new ways to style jewelry. While I usually only wear studs in my second piercing, I decided to replace them with tiny hoops, and wear studs in my first piercing. I think this added a subtle yet unexpected flair to the outfit—though it might not be something you catch at first glance. I’m a big fan of little details like that.

Simple, yet versatile accessories completely transformed this outfit. I highly recommend playing around with accessories… They can make all the difference!
