STYLE GURU STYLE: Playing With Proportions

I have always been a fan of the Italian origins displayed through the work of Valentino, but I am especially fond of their ingenious fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. Beside the surprise runway appearance from Zoolander 2 stars, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, that you may have seen on Snapchat, Valentino’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection is overflowing with creative fashion inspiration.

I admire the designer’s decision to give the majority of the collection a black and white color palette. The contrasting colors give the collection an edgy, yet sophisticated vibe. Another element that the Valentino designers carried throughout their collection was the abundance of A-line silhouettes. This made me even more drawn to the classy style of Valentino. The way the designers played with proportions encouraged me to think outside of the box when selecting my outfit for the day.

I combined my own A-line, skater skirt with an oversize, button-down and slipped on my favorite pair of ankle strap flats for a casual, yet stylish look. Even though my skirt and top are both loose-fitting, my outfit is still proportional. All I had to do was find my perfect balance. When crafting this look, I decided to stick with the black and white color palette used in the Valentino collection, but I decided to spice it up a bit with jewelry and a pop of red lipstick. When I combined all of these elements into my look, I created a trendy outfit perfect for running errands around town and grabbing a late lunch with friends.

Get My Look: 1. Black skater skirt. 2. White button-down. 3. Ankle strap flats.
