STYLE GURU STYLE: Playing with Prints

Now that summer has begun, it’s the perfect time to play around with different prints and patterns. Taking a cue from Nicole Miller’s resort 2015 collection, combining these wild patterns with stripes gives off an abstract look. Florals are the perfect pattern for the summer, as they remind us of the product of spring’s creations.

During my walk through the neighborhood, I opted for my breezy pair of blue floral shorts from Urban Outfitters. This pair of shorts is very loose fitting, so they are the perfect “throw on and go” piece, while still looking fashionable. My navy blue and white striped Ralph Lauren T-shirt sticks to the same shades as my shorts, creating a cohesive flow between my top and bottom pieces. For accessories, I chose to go for a couple of simple and practical pieces. My wrap around wrist watch is the perfect accessory for a day out and about. Watches are great because they look cute and are convenient for keeping track of the time without having to pull out your phone. Because I was going for a short walk, my Michael Kors cross-body purse was the perfect size to carry my essentials. And, of course, because it is summer, I had to pull out my white gladiator sandals to tie my outfit together.

In an attempt to keep a look from being too overwhelming with the different prints, stick to a common color scheme. Sticking to a color palette helps add dimension, while also toning down an entire ensemble.
