STYLE GURU STYLE: Patterns And Pops Of Color

Christian Dior‘s spring 2015 couture show was fresh, colorful, lively and surprising, all at the same time. Models strutted their stuff in patterned bodysuits and multi-colored skirts. The colors were phenomenal, ranging from pastels to bright green and yellow. The offbeat mix of patterns and colors was a refreshing break from expected spring florals. This collection inspired me to add some pop of color into my mostly black, gray, navy and white wardrobe.

While Wisconsin spring weather isn’t exactly the time to ditch jackets and teeter around in thigh high boots and mini dresses like some of Dior’s models in his collection, it doesn’t hurt to play with some color and patterns. First, I made pattern mixing easy on myself by choosing a striped T-shirt with a cheetah print pocket.

Then, for some downtown chic vibes, I threw on a pair of light wash ripped jeans. A striped T-shirt and ripped jeans are always the basis for a good outfit. In addition, I added a couple of descending necklaces. Next, I borrowed my mom’s olive jacket. The olive really stood out against the nautical stripes. To complete my outfit, I put on my trusty Converse and a pair of rainbow aviators. The sunglasses act as the standout piece, since the rest of the colors in the outfit are toned down. The aviators really brightened up the look and transitioned it from fall to spring. The sunglasses act as the standout piece, since the rest of the colors in the outfit are toned down.

While there are certainly a lot of elements going on in this outfit, the structure of the pieces is somewhat simple. Hints of detail are what make this outfit work.

Get My Look: 1. A pair of ripped skinny jeans. 2. A basic T-shirt. 3. Colorful sunglasses.
