STYLE GURU STYLE: Pattern Play

Hey there, Fashionistas/os! Today, I am showing you some of my own personal style in the form of one of my favorite outfits. This summer, there is nothing trendier (not to mention more comfortable) than rompers. Rompers are the new dresses for this season, and I am totally on board. What’s better than being able to throw on one clothing item and head out the door? For this outfit, I was inspired by Chanel’s resort 2016 collection. The collection is filled with colorful and fun patterns, mixed with blacks, whites and neutrals. Many of the ensembles featured in the collection mixed patterns in unique ways along with combining neutral colored pieces with brights and neons.

I know that mixing patterns can be scary for a lot of us, for fear that the outfit will look too crazy and random. So, in this outfit, I kept the pattern mixing very subtle. My strapless romper features a black and white damask print with black piping throughout the design. To spice up the look and add some fun for the summer, I added a straw fedora. Fedora hats are huge trend that has carried from spring to summer; these hats are a great way to take even the most basic outfits from plain to trendy! These hats were another staple piece of the Chanel resort 2016 collection, almost every look incorporated some kind of hat, so this topping my outfit off with one was a must for me.

To include the pattern mixing, I chose this specific hat for it’s colorful, tribal printed band. The bright pinks, oranges and blues are very reminiscent of those used in the Chanel collection, and I loved the way the colors popped in comparison to the black and white of the romper. Although this pattern mixing is very subtle, it is a great way to try out a runway trend in a completely wearable way! I accesorized the look with some gold bangles along with some patterned bracelets to add even more pattern play. I kept the shoes simple with these tan wedges to keep the look balanced.
