STYLE GURU STYLE: Palazzo Pants and Psychedelic Prints

The runways of Milan’s spring/summer ready-to-wear were on a ’70s trip and Emilio Pucci’s collection by Peter Dundas was no different. The designer used beautiful beadwork, embroidery, bejeweled metal pieces and gorgeous flowy fabrics to take the viewer on a psychedelic ride to yesteryears. My favorite pieces from the collection included Anna Ewers’ beaded macramé minidress and suede boots and the embroidered-flower and studded, tailored pink-suede blazer. However what I absolutely fell in love with were all of the cool, psychedelic prints Dundas used for his tent dresses.

I’ve had these pants in my closet forever but I just never quite knew how to style them, so today I decided to try out the psychedelic vibe for myself. Having bold, fun prints in your wardrobe is definitely a must-have this summer! Though it might be a little intimidating at first if you’re not used to rocking such a bright print, you just need to make sure your ensemble isn’t too busy for the eye. I used the bold printed pants as a statement piece for the whole outfit and accessorized lightly so it didn’t take away from the groovy print. I paired those with a bustier top in white with a multi-string back and sweetheart neckline and my favorite pair of wood-bottom, black-suede wedges to complete the retro look.

The great thing about palazzo pants for the summer is that most are made from cotton, so they’re incredibly lightweight and will keep you fairly cool during these hot summer months. Another great benefit, and personally my favorite, is that they’re not only super cute but they’re also extremely comfortable! Palazzo pants can also be dressed up or dressed down so they can be worn for a night out on the town with your girlfriends or worn with your bikini to cover you up at the beach when the sun starts to go down.

Peter Dundas’ collection really inspired me to play with funky prints that might usually be a little out of my box and have fun with it. If you rock the psychedelic print properly you’ll definitely be turning a lot of heads while you’re strutting down the street. Make sure to use the print as a basis of your ensemble’s color scheme and incorporate pieces that complement it. Also don’t forget to accessorize and be confident; now you’re ready to take on the world and make a statement!
