STYLE GURU STYLE: Overalls and the Cold Shoulder

If there is one trend I have been loving this summer, it’s the cold shoulder top. The off-the-shoulder look became popular in the ’90s, but now it’s back and better than ever. Instead of a black, grungy mesh crop top that Avril Lavigne might have worn, we’re seeing soft, girly off-the-shoulder tops with floral prints and lace. Cold shoulder tops are a fun and feminine way to show off a little skin, while staying modest.

Anyone that knows me knows I love my overalls, so when I saw Rachel Comey’s pre-fall collection I was over the moon. The collection features quite a few overall and jumpsuit pieces, as well as some off-the-shoulder tops, so I thought why not combine the two! Overalls are a great way to add interest to any look. It’s one of those staple items that can be dressed up with a few trendy pieces for a brunch date, or can be dressed down with Birkenstocks and a t-shirt for class.

The collection’s color story was pretty dreamy with mostly neutrals and a few pops of mauve and pink. My favorite looks and the looks I drew the most inspiration from were the off-the-shoulder cream jumpsuit, the tie neck patterned jumpsuit with knit vest and the brown overalls. I love how the collection uses neutral colors and minimalistic patterns to keep the focus on the bold pieces.

For my own look, I paired my trusty denim overalls with a lace off-the-shoulder top. I kept my accessories minimal with a simple leather tote and heeled clogs, so all the focus was on the overalls and trendy top.

Get My Look: 1. Overalls. 2. Cold shoulder top. 3. Clogs.
