STYLE GURU STYLE: Overall Style

Hey there! The most wonderful time of year has finally come. It is getting colder and colder every day which means it is time for layering. Fall is my favorite time of year because you get to play with layers, wear booties and stay warm without sweating through all of your nice clothes. Each year it feels like fall starts later and later, but it is finally here!

A good way to be versatile with your layering is using overalls. Generally, overalls are thought of as a summertime piece, but they can easily be adapted to fit colder weather. With the addition of some tights and a long sleeve shirt, you can transition an overall dress into fall and, later, winter.

In this outfit I am wearing a floral-patterned corduroy overall dress over a dark gray long sleeve shirt. I have paired that with my sorority lavaliere necklace which is a daintier piece and black suede and leather booties. I am also wearing opaque black tights and an olive green jacket with shearling lining. I mostly wear neutral colors, so if I am wearing something with a little more personality, like this overall dress, I keep the rest of my outfit more muted. I like to wear booties with this particular outfit because I feel like black on black makes my legs look longer, and I’m pretty short so I need all the help I can get.

With a change of undershirt and boots I could make this outfit completely different. That is the beauty of overall dresses, they can be a very versatile piece and lend themselves to many different occasions and styles, which is something I look for since less clothing items means less laundry I have to do.
