STYLE GURU STYLE: Over it All, Except Fall

Happy Autumnal Equinox, my fellow Fashionistas/os! I sincerely hope the sun, stars and moon are in line for you and that you’re feeling balanced (much like the Earth) in your near completion of the first month of school. As the days go by, we are entering my favorite season to dress for—a slight chill requiring a light layer and the ability to walk from hither to thither without being drenched in sweat. TMI? Nevertheless, I’m happy about it. Fall layering is a great contribution to any outfit, you can add dimension or texture to your tried and true staples with a simple layer over or under. And not to mention, it’s super comfy!

I was going for a stroll in Chestnut Hill, a cute little town on the outskirts of Philadelphia and I came across this store that I knew I couldn’t continue walking past. The mannequin out front had this denim dress with a bell sleeve that was calling for me. I was hooked, I had to go in. To the pleasure of my closet and the dismay of my wallet, I loved everything. I found myself thinking, “I have finally found my store!” Unfortunately the denim dress didn’t work out (damn my long legs), but fortunately I found my new fall staple—these corduroy overalls! These overalls walk the line of modern style; kinda dorky, kinda cool and I ain’t afraid to lean on the dorky side and rock it! As you may have surmised…

There’s only a slight chill in the air at this point so I paired the overalls with a simple black crew neck tank top. In the future I can see myself layering a thin sweater or turtleneck underneath the overalls or a similar tank top with a flannel over top. Who knows, maybe while it’s still warm enough I’ll wear it with nothing underneath (if I’m feeling risque). Instead of wearing my usual shoe of choice, Birkenstock’s, I decided a pair of black suede booties would be more fall-ish. To tie it all together, a printed headscarf to break up the monotony of my neutrals and hide my frizzies.
