STYLE GURU STYLE: Out With the Old, In With the Bold

If you need a change from the all too common black hue that dominates most of your winter wardrobe, shake things up with some bold patterns and bright colors.  Pulling inspiration from the Betsey Johnson spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection allowed me to take a break from my usual dark winter wardrobe.  Betsey Johnson’s whimsical collection is the perfect motivation to spice up a monotonous ensemble.

Like most of her designs, this particular collection of Betsey Johnson’s features bright, neon colors which translated into the selection of the floral and paisley dress I’m wearing. Following suit, I chose to pair the dress with a leopard print jacket.  While pairing bold prints such leopard, floral and paisley is not a likely combination, I had a lot of fun with this outfit and the patterns seem to compliment each other in a beautifully chaotic manner.

Continuing the bold, brightly colored theme, I finished the look off with a fun fuchsia lip.  Using makeup is a great way to enhance this look.  The makeup on the models wearing the Betsey Johnson collection featured extended rainbow eye shadow and vibrantly dyed eyebrows, but you don’t necessarily need to commit to either of those eccentric techniques. A colored eye shadow or winged eyeliner would perfect the look as well.

There are many ways to achieve a Betsey Johnson inspired look this winter.  Don’t be afraid to mix prints; I would say the bolder, the better!  Try adding some color to your own winter wardrobe and start the new year off on a cheery note.

Get My Look: 1. Start with patterned dress.  2. Layer with a bold coat.  3. Finish off the look with a bright lipstick.
