I fell head over heels for the alice + olivia, resort 2015 collection. I can honestly say that the collection is not very cohesive, but it’s probably what I love most about it. Designer Stacey Bendet created a very whimsical and sort of a fantasy like collection. From all of the resort collections this has been the one to capture my attention. I love that the collection is fun. She mixes prints, colors and textures. She goes from a floral printed silk bomber jacket to an elegant black and white maxi dress. The reason her collection is not very cohesive is because it was inspired by a story and as we all know it takes a lot to be able to tell a story. The woman who wears this collection must live a full life filled with wonders and travel.
I have been staring at this collection through my computer screen for about a month now. I’ve been doing this in order to soak up some of it’s qualities and hopefully be inspired the next time I went shopping. It worked! I found this kimono that normally I would have left hanging on the rack. Right away I thought of this collection, especially the maxi silk shirt dress. There is something so whimsical about the pattern and the shape of this kimono.
In a lot of her outfits I found that only one piece was grasping the spotlight, the rest of the outfit was simple. A lot of her palette was black and white and as I mentioned in last week’s article, this has become every designers favorite two colors. This is why I decided to keep the rest of my outfit simple.
This collection reminded me to take a step out of my comfort zone and keep experimenting. Fashion is supposed to be fun and your style should never stay stagnant. Keep exploring and let me know what your favorite collection has been!
