There is a saying, “It’s not about the destination; it’s about the journey.” In a sense, this quote can be applied to the kate spade new york spring 2014 ready-to-wear show as Deborah Lloyd, the brand’s creative director, takes you on a journey through beautiful parts of Europe. In her show, she recreates Giverny, Paris, Monaco and Capri in her collection of fit and flare dresses, matching separates, structured handbags and sun hats projecting a sense of ’60s European glamour.
I couldn’t help but fall in love with this collection because of its quirky prints and feminine silhouettes. To me, it evokes the romance of traveling, like sitting in a cafe to people watch and exploring the city on foot. You can also modernize the collection for everyday life. Taking a few hints from the show, I am wearing a white lace fit and flare dress with black flats, a metal floral necklace, black bag and a charcoal panama hat. I incorporate the romantic, feminine silhouettes and structured handbags featured in the show with some masculine pieces like my hat and jewelry to balance out my outfit. I left my hair down, and added sunglasses to retain that European charm.
My outfit is perfect to wear from day to night allowing me to focus on what I have left of summer. With it being the first week of August, pretty soon it will be time to go back to school. Dress up in your prettiest outfit and explore the place you’re currently in without an agenda. After all, you’re still on holiday.
