STYLE GURU STYLE: Off-The-Shoulder

If I had to pick just one specific trend to sum up the past year, it would have to be the off-the-shoulder silhouette. This trend first appeared on the runway during the fall but has managed to stick around throughout the entire spring season and now on into the summer as well.

What I love about the off-the-shoulder silhouette is its effortless, minimalist feel. Because of this, it appeals to many different styles and tastes. Bohemian and romantic or classic and tailored—whatever your look may be, off-the-shoulder is an attractive option for just about anyone.

alice + olivia opted for a bohemian look for their spring 2016 collection. There were hand embroidered skirts, embellished jeans and of course, several off-the-shoulder pieces all with a neutral color palette reminiscent of designer Stacy Bendet’s inspiration: the desert. In addition to alice + olivia’s boho vibes, we saw more shoulder barring in Rebecca Taylor’s romantic collection full of floral prints, lace, delicate ruffles and a pastel color scheme.

Like Rebecca Taylor, I also went with more of a romantic look. I actually wore this outfit to the farmer’s market, so I chose to dress it down and be comfortable by pairing my lace off-the-shoulder top with a casual pair of denim cutoffs, flat lace up sandals and a fun tassel handbag. This top was the perfect thing for a hot summer day in the sun because it kept me cool—another perk of this trend. Keep on showing those shoulders this summer just don’t forget the sunscreen!
