STYLE GURU STYLE: Nothin' But A Houndstooth

Viktor & Rolf’s pre-fall 2015 show is right up my alley. From the turtlenecks to the mixing of black and navy, I want every look to magically appear in my closet. Every piece from the show was edgy yet timeless, and the outerwear was to die for. The show also featured an abundance of my favorite cold weather print—houndstooth. While I can appreciate a good plaid in the winter, I am always drawn to the classic houndstooth print because it incorporates my two favorite colors into one piece.

I picked up this A-line, houndstooth skirt from Zara a few months ago, which is what inspired me to translate some of the looks from the show into my own style. I love the look of an A-line skirt because the shape is very feminine, but is still structured. For style icons like Alexa Chung, A-line skirts and dresses are a wardrobe staple, and I am more than happy to follow suit. I paired my printed skirt with another wardrobe necessity—a plain black turtleneck. I love this one specifically because it is incredibly warm, but not at all bulky.

While most of the models in the show were barelegged, the frigid cold weather forced me to add some sheer black tights to my outfit. You could also swap the sheer black tights for some fleece-lined tights for even more warmth. I also added my favorite oversized boyfriend coat, which was a nice shift from my everyday parka. Finally, I opted for some taupe ankle boots (just until I can get my hands on the incredible printed loafers from the show).

Get My Look: 1. A simple black turtleneck. 2. Neutral ankle boots. 3. An oversized coat.
