STYLE GURU STYLE: Not Your Grandma's Lace

Fall in Florida is very different from fall in most parts of the United States. All you need to do is throw on a flannel or button-up shirt over your dress, skirt or pair of shorts and you instantly have a cute look that is perfect for Florida fall weather.

While trying to find outfit inspiration for this semester, I came across Givenchy’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. It featured many different lace dresses and shirts. However, the outfits were not dainty or frilly. The lace was paired with menswear-inspired pieces, and some of the models wore amazing heels that looked like the love child of stiletto heels and a pair of Converse.

I took inspiration from that incredible show and decided to incorporate lace elements into my campus style. I’m wearing a cream-colored crop top with intricate lace detailing, which is very similar to what was shown at the Givenchy show. I’m also wearing a high-waisted floral skirt and geometric necklace. I decided to wear a white pair of Converse (which aren’t nearly as cool as the shoes shown at the Givenchy show) to add a grungy element to my outfit. To top the look off, I’m wearing a structured army green button-up shirt to balance the sweetness of the look.

I think that this outfit proves that everyone can work lace into their own personal wardrobe. It doesn’t matter if your style is edgy, girly or anything in between. Adding unique elements that reflect your personal style can make lace the perfect outfit choice for anyone during any season.

Get My Look: 1. Lace crop top. 2. Floral skirt. 3. Button-up shirt. 4. Classic Converse high-tops.
