The Diesel Black Gold spring 2014 ready-to-wear collection had me digging through my boyfriend’s closet. Destroyed, light wash denim took center stage on the runway in the form of jeans, vests and dresses. This season, a slouchier fit, reminiscent of men’s jeans, was favored. The models showed off the chic, rocker pieces with clean, pulled back hair, natural makeup and bold brows. The icy blues and light pinks of the collection appealed to a more feminine audience, while still offering the tough chick vibe that the brand is known for. Silver embellishments added a modern twist to denim, showing off the versatility and creativity of Diesel Black Gold. Whether you are a girly girl or a tomboy, the slouchy denim shown on the runway is a must-have.
Inspired by the light wash and loose-fit of the denim in the collection, I opted for a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans. Boyfriend jeans are a great alternative to skinny jeans. The looser fit allows for added comfort and gives off a casual vibe that’s perfect for summertime. When choosing a pair of boyfriend jeans, be mindful that there is a fine line between stylish and sloppy. Destroyed denim is a great choice for this fit because it shows off a little more skin for a sexier, more feminine look. I paired my boyfriend jeans with a simple white tank top. To go from a more masculine look to one that is more feminine, I added a bright pink, floral kimono with lace trim and a pair of white sandals. Denim is a versatile closet staple and boyfriend jeans are no exception. These jeans can be dressed up or down and can look rocker chic as well as romantic and feminine. I cuffed my jeans to show off my sandals and accessorized with a mint-colored statement necklace and custom turquoise and silver ring. I opted for beachy waves and strong eye makeup for an extra punch of femininity that contrasted beautifully with the menswear inspired denim.
Diesel Black Gold is known for denim and it’s no wonder why. The spring 2014 collection included classic denim pieces with modern twists. Unique new washes and embellishments made ordinary jeans into must-have statement pieces. With denim being the focus on the runway, it was the slouchy boyfriend jean that stole the show. As shown on the catwalk, denim is versatile and can be incorporated into anyone’s personal style. Experiment with different accessories to create different looks with a pair of boyfriend jeans and remember, if you get caught borrowing a pair from your guy—blame it on the runway.
