STYLE GURU STYLE: [Not In Your] Wildest Dreams

As I left Atlanta earlier this month, the weather by no means offered a season’s greeting. Blame it on Hotlanta, but the cold front has not arrived at Emory University. Nor has it arrived in Texas where I spent the past week of winter break. Ornamented palm trees, delicious Mexican food and a coastal climate welcomed me to McAllen, a town just north of the border.

With temperatures in the 80’s, my holiday staples consist of plenty of button-downs and straight leg jeans with either heeled boots or slip-on sneakers. For a style combination like this, it is imperative to add a quirky piece to the ensemble. I accomplished this with the sleeves of my button-down and the lovely message printed on these sneakers (AKA man repellants). Bye, boys. Altogether, they provide a sassy take on the menswear fashion featured in the Filippa K. spring 2016 runway show.

Menswear provides the comfortable alternative to seasonal trends. Opt for a long-sleeved button-down when cool weather finally hits, and partner it with an oversized coat and scrappy heels. For more formal occasions, throw on a thin, silk tie to pull the look together. Don’t let the upcoming cold front fool you, though. Invest in a pair of oversized sunglasses to protect your eyes during upcoming road trips.

Whether spending holiday in New York or southern Texas, pack menswear-inspired clothing for their versatility in an array of climates. Oh, and every Fashionista deserves to sport a boxy button-down with their current status: unavailable. Why? Because we’re too busy running the world.

Get My Look: 1. Boxy button down. 2. Straight-leg jeans. 3. Slip-on sneakers.
