STYLE GURU STYLE: Normcore is Alive and Well

The spring 2016 Phelan ready-to-wear show revealed that sneakers are still in fact trendy. The launch of this new label by former Alexander Wang knitwear designer Amanda Phelan proved that normcore is still alive and well, but with a twist. Sneakers were combined in a number of different ways, from exotic prints to minimalistic ensembles. Phelan did not hold back on the use of materials either since materials present were anything from patent leather to popcorn knits. This collection had a ’90s vibe; popcorn shirts were all the rage in the ’90s! I wish I had a popcorn shirt to copy certain looks in the collection, but I managed with what I have.

I am a self-proclaimed sneaker addict. Ask anybody I know, they will agree. Knowing I can wear sneakers with basically anything and still being considered fashionable is extraordinary. Today, I chose to pair my favorite gray V-neck T-shirt, dark stonewash denim and brand new Nikes. Feel free to pair bright colors, prints and neutral colors together for this look since Phelan exhibited numerous ways to do so. Also, accessories are always the answer so I wore my favorite gold Marc Jacobs watch.

I am ecstatic the fashion world is viewing sneakers as chic. Now I do not have to destroy my feet in heels whenever I have to dress up. I am now not going to have to dread dressing up. Who knows maybe people will start wearing sneakers with gowns…okay lets not go too far.

Get My Look: 1. A dark gray V-neck T-shirt. 2. Dark stonewash denim. 3. White leather Nikes.
