STYLE GURU STYLE: New to Neutrals

This past season was full of really strong concepts from a lot of newer designers, but there were also longtime favorites—like the designers at Chloé—who built on their signature look with a newer, updated twist. Chloé’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection featured a new take on the nude trend. Instead of focusing on one light shade of nude, they encapsulated what nude can really mean by having a variation of shades. Chloé has always had a very feminine and gentle look with every aspect of their designs. From the fabrications they use to the color palettes and silhouettes, their collections always give an air of softness that stands out among the harshness of many designers on the runway. With this aesthetic, Chloé uses neutral nudes, tans and browns as a base instead of black. This collection features a lot more dark colors than you would normally see in a Chloé collection, but it mixed well with the floral patterns and sheer fabrics that were present. All the looks were full of movement with outerwear and dresses, which is something I tried to incorporate into my outfit as well as the nude component.

As someone who consistently wears a lot of black-on-black outfits, wearing this piece was more difficult for me. For my look, I tried to utilize this nude piece in my closet by adding in a band T-shirt. I added this band T-shirt to balance out how feminine the jumpsuit is. As someone who wears a lot of graphic T-shirts and band T-shirts, finding new ways to style them is really important for me. They have always been a staple in my closet so adding it made this piece more comfortable to wear. I also added in a satin bomber and some sneakers to make this flowing, feminine piece a little more masculine and structured. I like to have a delicate balance of both so finding the right pieces to do so is always a fun challenge.

Get My Look: 1. Band T-shirt. 2. Nude layering piece. 3. Satin Bomber.
