STYLE GURU STYLE: New Age Neutrals

We all find inspiration for our style in different places. I personally love to scroll through photos of the latest collections to see what my favorite designers are creating. Another long fashion month has recently come to a close, and I saw how multiple brands and designers integrated trends from past decades into their collections. However there is one brand, J.Crew, that consistently stays true to a classic look. For my outfit I was inspired by J.Crew’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, which features oversized pieces, neutral colors and a few pops of bright color. The collection, among many other J.Crew collections, was created with the intention of mixing-and-matching. Although the pieces are structure-less and have a boxy fit, the collection is still polished and feminine.

My look reflects this collection through the light, neutral colors, chambray top and printed shoes. If you’ve taken a peak at my STYLE GURU BIO, you will know that I love how neutrals can expand your wardrobe and provide an endless amount of outfit combinations. I was able to wear both the chambray button-down and the white denim separately in the winter because they are such two versatile pieces.

Whoever says that you can’t wear white before Memorial Day clearly hasn’t been keeping up with J.Crew’s latest looks. This spring collection includes feminine white pants, shorts and tops. One look paired light blue chambray pants with a white top, which inspired me to also combine these colors and fabrics together for the beginning of spring. I accessorized this look with a light silver watch to tie in with the neutral colors.

You can’t miss the bright color and bold printed heels throughout the collection. This is why this collection inspired me so much, because it brings classic pieces together and enhances them with fun, yet tasteful color. However, I needed to make a slight adjustment in the transition from the runway to my everyday look. Just as any other Fashionista/o in college, my days are busy with running to classes, meetings and the gym, so I went with a more practical leopard print loafer rather than a heel. The loafer stayed consistent with my lifestyle while adding the bit of extra personality I needed in the otherwise very classic look.

Get My Look: 1. Chambray button-down. 2. White denim pants. 3. Leopard print flat. 4. Silver watch.
