STYLE GURU STYLE: Neutral Territory

A neutral palette in an outfit provides a chic and effortless sense of style. I love to wear a basic color scheme with a standout accent piece on days I do not feel like planning an elaborate ensemble. Black, camel, gray and taupe flooded the Polo Ralph Lauren fall 2016 ready-to-wear runway show. The collection perfectly mixed traditional and new, embodying a casual yet elegant theme.

The designer Ralph Lauren, cited the English Countryside with a modern twist as his source of inspiration. He kept all his looks neutral and tailored with lovely knitted tops, suede suits and frock coats. Then he added interest into the simple sets by throwing in flannels, Southwestern inspired belts and fabulous purses. The collection as a whole encapsulates the spirit of the countryside with splashes of modernity.

Today, I kept my outfit in a similar color scheme to Polo Ralph Lauren fall 2016 ready-to-wear with a black top and jeans and camel colored boots and purse. Taking cues from the collection, I tied a red flannel around my waist. This gave an unexpected splash to my neutral colored clothing. The knit top I wore for this look has a high neckline to embody the collection’s frequent use of turtleneck pieces. Being a Texan girl, I used this as an opportunity to wear my camel colored cowboy boots to match the country vibe of the collection. Lastly, I chose this structured purse in a different camel shade than the boots in order to juxtapose the tones of neutral ensemble.

Polo Ralph Lauren mixed various shades of neutrals in the outfits for the collection. This look nicely suited my usual style of dawning neutral colors and my appreciation for a classic flannel shirt. Finding inspiration from this ready-to-wear show should be easy because we all have a go-to flannel and a wardrobe full of basic neutral colored pieces.
