STYLE GURU STYLE: Nauti And Navy

Tommy Hilfiger is known for his commitment to themes. His pre-fall collection sailed close to home showcasing a nautical and somewhat patriotic theme. Hilfiger forgot no nautical motif when creating these preppy looks. High-waisted sailor pants, shining gold buttons, striped shirts, anchors and tattoo prints fit for a sailor’s arms all made appearances in the collection.

With Hilfiger’s preppy meets nautical theme in mind, I put together an outfit that any Fashionista can recreate with just a few closet essentials. A patterned skirt and a cozy knit sweater are staples in every style fanatic’s wardrobe. This dynamic duo can be paired together to create a chic, yet comfortable look that can easily transfer over from one season to the next.

I paired my favorite Brandy Melville sweater with a patterned skirt from Design Lab to create a sea-worthy ensemble. Tucking the sweater into the front of the skirt gives the outfit an effortlessly stylish silhouette. I finished off the look with a chic necklace and a pair of booties that are just the right amount of cute and functional for the cold months to come.

Be the captain of you own ship and make this look your own. Don’t be afraid to add in a pop of color like Hilfiger’s use of red in this collection. Adding a bright hue into your wardrobe this winter is sure to help you stand out in a sea of dark coats. If you’re looking to make an even bigger splash, try mixing patterns. I recommend trying a striped print paired with an abstract print. The contrast between the sharp lines and abstract shapes will help you create a look that is mightier than the waves at sea.

Get My Look: 1. Any neutral colored sweater. 2. A nautical inspired printed skirt. 3. Your favorite booties. 4. A warm jacket for cold weather layering.
