STYLE GURU STYLE: More Chambray, Please

Chambray is light cotton fabric that has been in trend for the last few years. Most know chambray as faux denim, but in reality it is a fabric of its own. Chambray is created by weaving two colors of yarn to make a fabric that enhances the color and mimics a texture. Generally the warp is of a blue yarn and the weft is a white yarn, creating that denim look. From trousers to oversized button-downs, J.Crew’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection explores the versatility of chambray fabric.

Today’s Style Guru Style is a casual outfit for those chilly, stormy days with inspiration from J.Crew’s look 19. Summer storms and unpredictable weather are inevitable here in Ohio. Instead of slipping on my favorite sweatpants and relaxing in a T-shirt all day, I like to put together outfits that can weather any storm! Stripes are just as versatile as chambray fabric which is why pairing the two together creates an effortlessly hipster look that anyone could pull off.

My lightweight, military styled jacket is the highlight of this outfit. The chambray back of the jacket adds a little bit of an edge but it also uniforms the look by mimicking my denim pants. Garments that combine several trends like this are hard to come by and can be very difficult to style. Pairing this trendy piece with a basic black and white T-shirt is an easy way to style it. When mixing denim and chambray it is ok if they don’t perfectly match. The mix in color and wash is what makes the duo work. I am obsessed with my Converse shoes and I wear them with almost everything.

My Converse aren’t in the best condition, but I personally believe that it adds character! Cuffing the pant leg polishes the transition from denim to shoe. The smallest details in an outfit are what matter most. Although the garments themselves are what make up the ensemble, little details like cuffing pant legs can really transform an outfit.

Get My Look: 1. Striped T-shirt. 2. Chambray jacket. 3. Converse All-Stars.
