STYLE GURU STYLE: Monochrome

Black and white: such a simple pair, but together they can make such a statement outfit. Kaelen, full name Kaelen Haworth, created a beautiful monochrome collection for resort 2016. The Canadian designer moved to New York City to attend Parsons for fashion design. Her latest collection was mainly black and white with a few looks that included a colorful pattern. Kaelen knows how to create looks that are fun and edgy but still elegant for any woman to wear.

My favorite look from the 2016 resort collection would be look seven. The look includes a black and white printed midi skirt. To keep the look clean, the top is a pleated short sleeve crop top. The hair is short and blunt with a minimal makeup look. The shoes are monochrome, with a black leather upper and a clean white sole.

I took the monochrome inspiration from this collection to create my own monochrome summer look. I found this black and white patterned shirt, and it reminded me of the midi skirt in Kaelen’s collection. I kept the top simple, like look 7 in the resort 2016 collection, with a black tank top. To add a bit of my own style, I added a longer leather vest, which is one of my favorite summer accessories. Instead of flats, I paired my look with black and white heeled sandals. One of my favorite parts of the look is the hair. Instead of Kaelen’s short blunt hairdo, I created a messy halo braid. This hairstyle may look complicated, but with some practice you will be able to achieve the same look. Throw on a few accessories like a watch and black sunglasses to complete the monochrome look.

Get My Look: 1. Patterned shirt. 2. Black tank top. 3. Black and white heeled sandals.
